Environmental and social justice are intrinsically linked to the realization of food justice. Many of us have heard the term food desert, but food apartheid tells a deeper story—one of systemic injustice, disinvestment, and inequity in our food systems.

In National City, Olivewood Gardens is confronting the root causes of food apartheid head-on through education, advocacy and community empowerment.
